here we are "charlie's angels" (raffia, kellie, and I) armed and ready to take on the moat for songkran--Thai New Year's water splashing celebration.
lots of fun as we did lots of run-by shootings, but we took on some heavy enemy fire too, all pretty freindly :) and Raffia got a flesh wound due to ice on uneven terrain. But we accomplished our mission with lots of happy New Year greetings and smiles.

the second two shots are after our 4-mile adventure. wish I had footage of the actual event...but no camera is safe in an all-out water war.

the football trip to Laos comes to a close and now the return journey... leaving the hotel at 8 am, riding in the green truck to the border, crossing the Mekong River on mini-buses into Thailand then 12 more hours on the blue bus until we were home sweet home exactly at our eta of 10 pm. what a great trip with some wonderful guys (and a few wonderful gals too!) such a blessing!

everyone one was really happy on Pizza Night...actually it was such a hit we had it twice! on the bus ride back from the games, we would call in the order to the Scandinavian bakery and it would be delivered to the hotel just after showers...perfect! then each night the guys would meet up for game de-brief and a devotional and lights out at 11:00.

today after 9 months of being back in Thailand, I was able to go to the Red Cross and donate blood wiht my friend Baat. how wonderful to "have a nap" while squeezing the foam then enjoying sweet juice and little bread rolls after. we both agree, going together was so much better and it is great to be able to provide for others in need.

Last night was "Blast from the Past".... Russell and I had a great dinner with Craig and Raffia then joined several parents for a fun night of dancing to music from High School days in the lunch room that the 11th grade class transformed into a dance hall as a fund raiser. It was a lot of fun!

a lesson in brick making as I stop for a quick chat along my Sunday morning run. several thousand bricks are formed and baked here each day. Wood is used to fuel the "ovens" and then the soot from the burning is sifted and recycled to mix in with other things to make the bricks. a very hot and labor intesive job and certainly not good for the lungs. when I asked the woman why she did not wear a mask like so many here where during the burning season, she said it made it too hot to breath.

Russ and I just had a wonderful 24 hours away...we drove to Lampang (just over 1.5 hours) to attend the charity concert for a Heart Unit in memory of James Morris. It was a really great event and the locals as well as many from CM enjoyed talented musical performers in a wide range of style and for many tears mixed with laughter as our grieving process continues. LOTS of money was raised for the new heart unit.

Instead of heading back at midnight, we arranged to stay in an artsy riverside guest house, then enjoyed a non-rushed morning including a great scenic run along-side the river, an explore through the town market, and a bowl of noodles before taking a stage-coach ride with a horse named Baat. The photos captured it all brilliantly. .. but then the camera experienced a mishap and now it is no more. Russell did great to console me on the drive home and then like my knight in shining armor, he researched cameras, bought a new one, loaded the software on the computer and gave me a quick lesson in how to use my new camera.

Here are the first photos from my little Sony (which I think I will like very much).

here are 4 photos of the Friday-Saturday trip Russ and I had for James' Memorial concert in Lampang. the first photos is outside of the concert hall that was packed out and live music played from a variety of performers until nearly midnight! my favorite performer was this young Thai singer...he made everyone feel so happy and special. interspersed with the music were photos of James and lots of talks too of the heart unit that will be built in Lampang in his honor. "Open Your Hearts " was the theme and just as God opened my heart to James and the love he had for life, I pray that hearts would be open to God. Photo number 3 is of Phim and Andrew as they were given a large photo of James. the evening was filled with tears, at times both happy and sad, and lots of healing took place. the final photo is from the river the next morning. Russ reserved a night for us at a cool guest house "the Riverside". he took the photo from the coffee house veranda while I spent the morning running and explore local life along the the river...can you see me across the river?? it was a good time to be together and to be thankful.

Run for Burma #6.
really great turn out with over 450 people running or walking for the people of Burma who have no choice but to run. great to be with friends on this nice morning enjoying health and freedom and an opportunity to raise money and awareness of the needs in Burma. Other than the year when we were in England, our family have run this 5K each year. fun to take second place for the old ladies category (women age 40-60) we will enjoy the prize of ice cream!

valentine prison party was such a joyful event for everyone...our gals and the 500 or so guy prisoners too as awards were given for poetry written about LOVE, our gals sang songs about God's love, various skits and karaoke rounded out the day.

Last day of spiritual emphasis week where Russell challenged not only all the students from grade 7-12, but the teachers and staff and many parents as well with messages from Peter's last letter and encouraging us all to treasure wisely. These daily morning times were enhanced by break-out times in the evening and a bon-fire of praise and prayer then culminating with ministry day on Friday when all students actively took part in some form of community serving. Lives continue to be changed as appropriate love is pursued.

Here are a few shots from Saturday in Chiang Mai Winter. Things are dry and will be for quite a while. Saturday morning Saints soccer has started back again and we are so glad to have Coach Cole on the pitch. Isaiah's team won their opening game with an exciting 3-2 win and on a smaller pitch Sophie got lots of playing time even as the only gal on the pitch and for the final goal of the game, she chipped the wall and scored!

The guys got out first, then Sophie folded with the biggest pile of chips then Hannah and I with a very large pot, both went all in...the winner would take all.... then as fate would have it, Hannah and I tied, each with the same hand, splitting the pot it was not enough for either of us to win... so Sophie (while writing a poem about poker for homework) was the big winner for the night!!

Here is the whole gang and our trust-worthy (and funny) guides. This Banyan tree is 7 trees that have grown together and is over 8 hundred years old. Our final repelling was from the platform 45 meters to the ground. A bridge near this peaceful waterfall ended our time in the canopy but then we all found the evening meal to be the most delicious for it was hot (and we were cold) and we had worked up quite an appetite! Thank you Grand-dad Ted and Cindy for this awesome gift for our family. Memories that will never fade!

Happy New Year 2010!
Hannah had already left to be at her New Year's Even Party when a few of the kiddos' friends popped by before heading out to other parties. It is great to have Cory back too! Unfortunetley, even though Russ and I were invited to 4 parties this year and I was relaly looking forward to seeing friends at each one, I became to sick to go out. The kiddos and Russell had a good time and 2010 has now begun.

Isaiah's Christmas gift to me was to have a whole day together doing fun things we both liked...such a thoughtful young man! we started off with a morning run up to Doi Kham mountain and back then some refreshing home-made banana chocolate milkshakes...yum! Then off on his Fino to the river to go kayaking. Good thing we brought along our novels and sudoku puzzles for as the final photo shows...someone had closed shop and moved all the kayaks while we were in England! the time along the river was peaceful to eat our snacks and listen as a Thai guy practiced his musical instrument of some sort and we read and raced sudokus until we worked up an appetite for fried rice. it was a fun day together and... once we locate the kayaks we get another fun outing :)

Our Christmas evening sure was a good time as our family hosted the Rumples, the Swensons, the Maxsons as well as Peter and John Park. We all enjoyed good visits over traditional lasagna dinner and lots of yummy desserts. Family and frieds just go good together!

Christmas Morning at the Minicks! This year Russ and I had to play Christmas music really loud in order to wake the kiddos up as we were up 2 hours before them!

With all the photo albums out to Christmases past, it was fun to think back over the years to where we have been and how we have all grown and to be thankful as a family for another Christmas together.

So happy that Hannah could be with us for the family prison Christmas party. Here she is caring for "Flower's" baby that was born a few weeks ago. The party really was a great time for everyone. We played games, sang Christmas songs, told the story of Christmas, enjoyed brownies and other yummy treats and gave each of the gals a gift. As we have been asked not to show any photos of the gals, my shots here are not what I wish they could be (with happy faces of the gals and guards from that event) but we thank God for the opportunity to have a day of Hope and Joy with everyone all together with our families.

Russ and I have a little adventure... well, we start off with a flat tire in Sophie's Fino, while I'm driving... but once that is repaired head up the samung road, past road-side stands selling things for loi gratong, to locate a pretty water fall off in the wooded trails.

Loi gratong at the prison. we join the gals at the boys prison (500plus boys) and friendly fire of pops and fire crackers get tossed back and forth in between times of large balloons make of paper and filled with hot air from torches get lifted up into the clear blue sky...or the flame gets to close to the paper and becomes a burning, rolling, ball of fire. binding takes place in non-direct ways some times :)

Sophie and Isaiah had a really good first semester at their new school so I treated to sushi bar (Sophie was too tired so she stayed home with a friend) but Isaiah and I really enjoyed the fun food and the chatting.
